Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione: Prints and Drawings 2012

The first exhibition in New York dedicated to this important seventeenth century artist from Genoa – is being held at the gallery of David Tunick, 19 East 66th Street, New York, NY, from May 3rd through July 17th, 2012.
Â The exhibition provides a rare opportunity to experience the graphic works of an artist who was the first to respond to RembrandtÂs prints on the Italian peninsula.Â The exhibition is comprehensive, showing nearly 50 of the approximately 60 total etchings that Castiglione produced.Â A number of his dry brush drawings done with oil on paper and one large pen-and-ink sketches, originally part of an album of philosophical subjects drawn from classical themes, are also on view. Other artists on view include Boucher, Fragonard, Claude Lorrain, Prianesi, Camillo Procaccini, Rembrandt, Salvator Rosa, and Pietro Testa.
